probably the standard for medicine in England
This book is used as a reference by almost all, both studying and practising medicine in the UK. It's three volumes are very easy to use, and well indexed. All the writers are the top of their field, and present well detailed and up-to-date accounts of almost all aspects of medicine. Highly recommended.

oxford textbook of medicine
The book is one of the best reerence books I have ever come across. Be it a topic for internal medicine or one of its related preclinical areas, up to date information and extensive references are available for that topic. I used this book as a reference while preparing for my exams and subsequently when I was writing a book myself ( a diagnostic picture seies). I recommend this book to everydody whether in training or in practice. A ready reference for all your doubts.

The Gold Standard
It's a shame this book is a special order. Everyone I have shown the book to, has gone gah-gah (this is a word?) The scholastic and academic quality are consistent with the best of the Oxford Press. The clarity and parsimony of the explication is beautiful. The data are current and insightful. Anyone in clinical practice would benefit from this book. The diagnoses used are those from DSM-IV, but the insight into patient behavior may be timeless. Although as an edited book it is subject to inter-author variability, I found none; rather a consistent voice of compassion for patients, tempered by a scientific mind.

Sports Medicine? It's here! Very Good!
This edition goes with excellent design, making of "Oxford Textbook of Sports Medicine" an intellectual and didactic attractive. Moreover, in this second edition the sections are reviewed, having important topics for physicians and all people interesting in sports medicine. The chapters are completes and concise in the same time, a great point for the editors, authors and principally for readers. In the beginning, the book presents a brief review of exercise physiology, following with general topics in sports as nutrition and growing. After, some chapters show for the reader some of the most common injuries in sports, having special considerations the injuries in ankle and knee. The last chapters describe about special populations in sports, as women in pregnancy and elders. I really recommend this book.

Oxford Textbook of Surgery
The definitive surgical text. Having tried many others, the Oxford Text Book of Surgery remains, in my view, the gold standard resource for any surgical trainee.

Simply the Best
This is by far the easiest, most thorough, best organized thesaurus I have ever used or owned--and I've tried most of them. I've never seen more synonyms per entry, and it even includes colors, which too many don't.

The Oxford Treasury of Classic Poems
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (04 October, 2001)
Author: Michael Harrison
Average review score:

Wonderful Oxford collection, not only for children
This excellent Oxford anthology edited by Michael Harrison presents a great choice of mostly classic, well loved poems and some newer works. The poems are accompanied by lovely, funny and effective illustrations in black and white or colour by diverse artists, which capture the tone of the poems very well.

I think the younger children will especially enjoy the nonsense verse by Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll or the funny poems by Hilaire Belloc. Children and parents can read this anthology together and let the cadenzas and rhythms of the poems suffuse their minds and hearts. Since for me, on these pages Blake's 'Tiger' again burned bright, I felt the tragedy of Noyes's 'Highwayman', was enchanted by Tennyson's 'Lady of Shalott' and Keats's 'La belle dame sans merci'. Shakespeare cast his own spell with his beautiful sonnets and I had great fun with Edward Lear and Lewis Carroll. As a sailor's daughter I enjoyed the sounds, smells and sights of Masefield's 'Sea fever' and Yeats's 'Wild swans at Coole' and 'Innisfree' have always been favourite poems.

A great introduction to wonderful poetry and not only for children.
